Enlighten Art Curriculum
Enlighten Art Center at The Cathay School is an international art standards certified art education program and gallery. The program includes these international standards and independently developed children’s art courses for the physical and psychological growth of children ages 3 to 12 years. Through creative instruction practices, nurturing guidance, and independent work experiences, children’s interest in and understanding of the arts and aesthetics will be stimulated and enhanced.
Art Literacy Integration - Pre-K
Through fun comprehensive instruction with inclusion of access to a variety of media and diverse creative techniques, children’s interest in and passion for learning art will be ignited. Projects will foster strong color sensitivity and observation. Material experiments and projects will include, but are not limited to watercolor, guache, collage, clay, and hands-on craft work. Children will be artistically enlightened!
Art Literacy Integration - Pre-K & K
Encourage a child’s interest in and passion for artistic creation by offering experiences that foster creative expression. Use of a variety of materials and access to art historical and contemporary art references provide a platform for children to explore, take risks, and stimulate their creative thinking. Students think critically about how artists use these elements and rules to create works of art and strengthen the emotional expression in and personal connection to their own works.
Art Literacy Integration - 2 & 3
Expand your child’s mind and expression of skills. From a state of graffiti and casual painting to a professional stage of artistic learning, children will create freely and daringly like masters. Children’s ability to observe, understand and express ideas is fostered through training in graphic association, masterpiece analysis, project extensions, and access to a variety of materials. Projects are comprehensive and cover mastery of aesthetic law, understanding of attributes of color, identifying characteristics of color psychology, and basic ability to develop and model space.
Art Literacy Integration - 4 & 5
Students continue to work like professional artists with strong creative problem solving and deep self expression. They explore a wide range of professional art making techniques and finesse their art appreciation and critique skills. Through more complex projects and individual studio work, students are able to better express and explain their individuality.
Art Literacy Integration - 5 & Up
Students will become independent artists with strong artistic literacy. Their thinking will be guided by “big idea” questions and multi-dimensional, divergent ways of thinking, analyzing, formulating, collecting, sorting, deconstructing, reconstructing, and creating to answer those questions. Students will be skilled independent learners and creators.
