Course Overview

Lego Junior (Age 6-9)

In the Lego Junior Class students from ages 6-9 will have the opportunity to engage in cross-curricular learning through the use of LEGO WeDo 2.0. WeDo is a learning solution that brings together technology (icon based programmable software), curriculum and hands-on work, and is aligned with key educational standards and learning objectives. The project-based activities help build science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) knowledge while incorporating lessons that tap into students love for all things LEGO. Through LEGO’s WeDo, students will utilize their skills to create moving models, while enhancing their creative and problem-solving abilities. Unlike the Summer Camp students will have time to expand and have a more indepth investigations with the on the lesson’s. The quick pace of summer camp only allows limited time to learn and master the skills.

Lego Advanced (Age 9-18)

In the Lego Advanced Class students from ages 10-18 will have the opportunity to engage in cross-curricular learning through the use of LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3. Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system with the most advanced technology, unleash the creative powers of the new LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 set to create and command robots that walk, talk, think and do anything you can imagine. The project-based activities help students learn advanced programming skill through an easy, intuitive and icon-based programming interface.

Course Overview

Lego League Junior Team (Age 6-9)

Each year, FIRST LEGO League Jr presents a new and exciting challenge to ignite the creativity of children age 6 to 10. While exploring the real-world theme, teams will use basic engineering concepts to build a model made of LEGO elements. They will also learn to present information through a Show Me Poster. Throughout their experience, team will operate under the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism.

Lego League Development Club (Age 9-14)

This course introduces students to real-world engineering challenge by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks based on past FIRST Lego League (FLL) competition. The program is designed to give students that are interested in participating in FIRST Lego League an opportunity to hone their programming and design skills. The students will learn how to work in teams in order to design, build, and test Lego-based robots created to complete various missions based on previous Lego League Season. The skills learned in the class will further the students knowledge, skills and experience in order to participate an extremely competitive and popular FIRST Lego League Competition.

Course Overview

This STEM Course is an introduction to 3D design using Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software and using LEGO models as the subject matter. This program is designed for 4th through 6th grade students. Students will use a computer to create LEGO based designs and models. The students will learn how to use a 3D LEGO CAD program called "LEGO Digital Designer" in order to learn all about real world science, technology, engineering and math concepts in a fun and exciting way.

Instructor Bio

Tyler Brooks 

Tyler Brooks has served as a high school technology and engineering instructor forthe past nine years. Recently he has assumed the roles of Technology EducationTeacher, Mentor and Coach for the FTC Team 6406 and CHS Racers Electrathon Race Team. His educational background includes a Bachelor in Science in Graphics Communications from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.He is a recognized National Board Certified Teacher as well as a certified Project Lead the Way engineering instructor.
