Fall 2018 Program Policy
Although we wish that your children can be with us this coming semester, we do understand that situations may arise, and we have a comprehensive program cancellation policy should it be of need.
If you request to cancel your program before the semester begins, you will receive a full refund.
If you request within the first week of the semester, you will only be charged for one week of class. The remaining balance will be refunded to you as a credit for future Cathay courses.
If you withdraw within the first two weeks of the semester, you will be charged for two weeks of class plus a $30 processing fee. Again, the remaining balance will be refunded to you as a credit for any future Cathay courses.
We cannot provide you with a refund after the first two weeks that the program begins.
If you are moving out of the area, we require a cancellation notice four weeks in advance of the program. We cannot assure you of any refund without this required advanced notice.
Emergency Weather Cancellation
The Cathay School is prepared to effectively and efficiently respond to a multitude of emergency situations that may impact students, staff, and parents or guardians. Note that our emergency decisions may be different from that of Montgomery County Public Schools’. During emergency weather, please check our website for the latest updates.
On days where there is emergency weather, we may close down the school for safety concerns. We will then refund you with class credits via our website.
If you are unable to attend your program due to emergency weather and our facility is still open, please call us to indicate your situation. We will be able to refund you 25% of your tuition for that day.
Should there be a switch in class program at The Cathay School, you must contact the School administration and give us at least a 24 hour notice. Class switches may not be be possible after this time period. However, please keep in mind that not every class switch request can be accommodated due to caps on the number of students in classes.
You will be able to request a refund in course credits (see Program Cancellation Policy) or a switch before the second week of your program (after one session).
You will only be able to request switches after the second session of your program; no refund can be provided.
Limitations apply when switching programs, and additional material fee may apply.
Missed Class Make-up
Please note that there is no guarantee of a make-up class (due to class size, class schedules, and material limitations). However, if you would like a make-up class, please let us know at least 24 hours ahead of time to maximize the possibilities of a make-up class.
If this class is only available one time a week, you will receive a 25% refund in class credits (given that we were notified at least 24 hours in advance).
If this class is available multiple times a week, we will try our best to accommodate your make-up class request. But again, there is no guarantee.
In the situation that there is an emergency or your child is suddenly too sick to go to class, each family has one chance per semester to call in the day of said class to request a make-up.
If there is a weather related emergency, please refer to the Emergency Weather Cancellation Policy above.
If there is an accident that occurs to a student while they are under the care of The Cathay School, The Cathay School requires that a witness – in the form of either a volunteer or staff member – assist in filling out an Incident Report. The parent(s) of the student(s) involved will then be notified of this occurrence and will be asked to sign the form to establish that they are aware of this incident.
